Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Peer Appear Group?

A Peer Appear Group (Peer Appear Drumming Group) is a support-based opportunity for peers who would have not otherwise met to come together and share, support, and build community through drumming and discussion.

People with common experiences, attitudes, hopes, and needs may find solace in an opportunity to reach out to, find and meet other kindred individuals. A Peer Appear Drumming Group provides that experience in a safe, grounded environment facilitated through rhythm-based activities.

There are several Peer Appear Drumming Groups available. Some of the current Peer Appear Groups include:

Atypical Moms Peer Appear Drumming Group, ReClif Community Peer Appear Drumming Group, Teen Peer Appear Drumming Group, Beat The OddsⓇ Peer Appear Drumming Group.

Are Peer Appear Group sessions or support groups free?

Some groups are sponsored by organizations under contract with Christopher Karow, and Horse Drum Hoofbeat. Individual Peer Appear Group rates for non-sponsored groups begin at $30 per therapeutic hour.

Do you accept insurance?

No. All fees must be paid in advance or at the time of service.

What is a “therapeutic hour”?

In professional therapy programs, the therapeutic hour is a standard 50-minutes. Some sessions may last longer than 50-minutes at the discretion of the therapist. Ethically, a client must be informed in advance if additional charged time will be incurred.

What are Equine Assisted Therapeutic Activities (Equine Assisted Activities/EAT)?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Hippotherapy, and Adaptive Equine Activities are all therapy systems that incorporate the use of equines (horses, bred horses, horse-mixes, miniature horses, ponies, drum horses, mules, donkeys, etcetera) to accomplish specific goals for a participant in therapeutic care for a specific diagnosed or assessed need. An EAT may include mounted activities where an individual is seated on an equine [horse], groundwork where an individual is not sitting on the horse but is in direct contact with the horse, or observational where an individual is engaged several feet away from the horse or other equine.
